Social Consumption Is Now Legal in Massachusetts — As of January 2, 2026, regulations allowing on-site cannabis consumption at licensed venues are officially in effect. Massachusetts is the first state in New England to permit cannabis cafes and consumption lounges. No venues are licensed yet, but municipalities can now opt in.
Legislators Negotiating Cannabis Reform — A panel began hashing out details on overhauling the Cannabis Control Commission and potentially doubling the personal possession limit from 1 oz to 2 oz. Both House and Senate versions would shrink the CCC from 5 members to 3.
